I gave this story five stars because it's a quintessential underdog story (literally). MontyThe Courageous Survival of a Rescue Dog is a true story that will make you cry and smile. You can't help but fall in love with Monty and his doggie smile. The book contains actual pictures of Monty and the wonderful people in his life.
A great story about a abused dog that goes to find a great home. It includes great pictures and it gives a person hope. Hope that there are still good people in this would. And how animals fight to live.

Dog lover or not, this book will "get ya" right where it counts - in the heart. It's a short and quick read but extremely touching! So much so, I couldn't believe it! Almost overwhelming. I'm glad I've had the chance to know Monty through this warm book! God, I want to rescue them all!
Author Janet Squires pieces together Monty’s harrowing ordeal from interviews and photos. Everyone involved with his rescue is caringly described as is Monty’s courageous effort to live in spite of a gunshot wound, losing a leg and being badly burned. This is a book for anyone who has ever gazed into the tender eyes of their pet and felt like there were no bounds to what they would do for them. A sad but uplifting true story that is also a wonderful tribute to animal rescue groups everywhere. Review ** spoiler alert ** "Monty The Courageous Survival of a Rescue Dog" written by Janet Squires, is a wonderful, heart-filled true story of an abused and abandoned dog. Though beaten, burned, shot, with broken bones, Monty found his way into the yard of an Animal Rescue worker. This dog has an enormous spirit and will to live. I love reading about the many volunteers it took to save, nurture, heal, and train this spirited dog.

Monty is a mixed pit-bull dog. He is found out in the desert. He has been shot and is severely injured, and near death. Nicole is an animal rescuer who finds him and takes him to a vet in hopes he can be save. Once they realize he will live they try to find him a forever home. This is a true story so there are lots of pictures and very little writing. I kept wondering, what kind of person would do something like this to a dog? Then I wondered what made him so special and determined to survive. By all odds he should have died.

Once again, I caution readers to not send me review requests outside of the boundaries of my guidelines, from genres other than what I prefer. However...I will give guarded permission to those who write animal books similar to the following. I may not accept them all, but if it has a dog or cat or funny animal, then I might consider it. Because, I mean, who doesn't like animal stories?
Plot
An animal rescuer finds Monty, a pit bull mix out in the desert. We follow Monty's story of recovery, surgeries, and eventual adoption.
This is a very short book that really doesn't tell a story like many animal books do. This is more of a report with a lot of photos.

Writing
Lots of good photos included. Throughout is a tracker of the increased 'like' Monty received on Facebook.
Pretty tightly contained. No stories of Monty's adventures in different situations, just discovery, recovery, adoption. I'm glad Monty went on to be a happy dog with a family, but I expected more adventure and anecdotes. I'm only giving this book the lower rank because of this. Doesn't mean it's a bad book, but I wanted more. There were no errors otherwise.
